Eclipse Spring Boot Auto Completion (Activation)

  When installing Eclipse and spring tools for plugin, you can see there's no auto completion for annotations  like @Autowired..


Problem:

By default, eclipse doen't auto complete for annotations like @Autowired, @PostMapping...

 

Resolution:

  • Eclipse java has only auto complete (activate) for  '.'
    • we should add '@' character for auto completion

How To Solve

  1. Windows > Preferences > Java > Editor > Content Assist 
    In Eclipse > Windows
    1. Check Enable auto activation
    2. Add @ to triggers
      1. Auto activation triggers for Java: .@ 
        Auto activation triggers for Java: .@
      2. Click Apply and Close

Let's see If Auto Activation works or not.

If you have other languages like php, javascript, etc in eclipse, same process applies for triggering activation in editor.

Visual Studio Code pin on 'open editors' (file) tab

It was released in May 2020 release and updated in September 2020 release. Eclipse doesn't have this functionality at this time.   When I program something with many files, I really need this function. Most editors has 'close Others', 'close to the right' options.
